Fantastic recipe! Followed information technology exactly but I baked mine in the oven at 375 for 20 mins and and then turned on the broiler for virtually 5 mins. The meat came out very juicy westward/ a piffling char on the edges just like if it was fabricated on the grill! Next time I might either half or completely omit the water.

This is a keen recipe. I make this dish quite often and ordinarily marinate the meat with rice wine(if yous don't accept it you lot tin utilise red wine or beer) and a cup of grated apple or kiwi or pineapple or pear first for a couple of hours before marinating information technology with other ingredients. This actually makes a lot of difference. Information technology makes the meat so tender and juicy. Koreans unremarkably apply fruit to marinate meat and this manner you don't have to put as well much sugar. I also season information technology with salt and pepper ( a compression of salt and about a teaspoon of pepper)

These were awesome. Followed the recipe exactly. Used boneless ribs. The actress affair I did was afterwards I marinaded the ribs for 36 hours, I poured it all in a saucepan - boiled it and then cooked it dull for an 60 minutes to reduce it to a thick sauce. Used that to coat the ribs while they were on the grill. DELICIOUS!
04/03/2011
Wow. If this is Korean BBQ then American BBQ needs to learn a few things from this.

I eat korean bbq ribs all the time and my korean auntie makes this quite often at family gatherings along with all the contrasted korean veggies (namool), rice, soup, etc. You don't need to grill this very long and the time called for in this recipe information technology estimate. This is a very delicious when bbq'd on the grill and I can e'er sense of taste a hint of the ginger and sesame oil mixed in with a little sugariness to balance the season. I usually serve this with hot rice, "Kongnamool," (korean soybean sprouts) and " Korean-mode Seaweed Soup," all from this site. Mmmm...so tasty and fullfilling!! UPDATE: Family loved this every bit ever, gobbled this up in mere seconds, licking fingers and smacking lips. The meat is then juicy and tender and has a nice sweetness from the brownish saccharide, a hint of sesame oil, garlic and ginger. Yummo!!!
08/22/2010
this recipe is very tasty. i used boneless shortribs and marinated in a ziplock handbag for 2 days in the fridge and did non add together water. i did non accept whatsoever green onions on mitt and subbed minced yellow onion. i also put these under the broiler and cooked to medium. They were delicious! i sliced the meat thin and as suggested, rolled them in romaine lettuce leaves and chili paste and ate with white rice. Yum!
08/06/2010
Delish! I by and large can but rate the marinade because I used a different cut of meat. Beef chuck flanken style ribs. Marinaded it for a good 6 hours. Really thickened the marinade that was left and cooked information technology with some asian way veggies. Daughter and beau rate it 5 stars! Me too! This is my kitchen approved!
02/19/2010
This is fantastic! Followed the recipe exact and I wouldn't change a single thing...cheers for submitting this delicious recipe!
10/07/2009
was awesome...thanks
09/ten/2011
I delete a 1/4 loving cup of water and added 1/4 cup FRESH pineapple juice. It was succulent and the hubs said it'south a keeper!!
07/28/2011
These were nothing brusque of perfect!! Probably i of tyhe best recipe'southward I have always constitute. Amazing sense of taste....amend then any sauce I accept ever bought. Best part is it takes minutes to get ready, and then only bbq time. I marinated for 24 hours. this one will be made over again for sure!!!
02/21/2011
this was FANTASTIC. I followed the recipe exactly, and served as suggested - rolled in romaine lettuce leaves, with rice, browned garlic, and hot chili paste. My husband is all the same talking near this repast days later, thats how I know information technology was a striking. (my three year old also polished off the rest of the meat plain after we finished our rolls!) I simply had plain quondam beef short ribs (bought at Wegmans) in the freezer, and institute this recipe to apply them in. Its always so squeamish when a "new" meal turns out to be such a success!! Thanks and so much, my husband is already after me to make this again as soon as possible! And, I volition take to double the recipe next fourth dimension! ;)
04/11/2011
This was very, very skilful. We made it with boneless short ribs on the grill, and it was fantastic. Next time I'g going to employ the marinade with chicken.
03/19/2010
Very good just a little on the sweet side for us!
09/29/2011
Squeamish. As well much salt for me, (I used reduced sodium soy sauce the 2nd time) and besides much sugar. (I tried it with 1/8 loving cup saccharide the second time.) And if you exercise that, reduce the common salt and sugar, you can pretty much omit the h2o too. The recipe does benefit from a couple of days in the refrigerator marinating in a ziplock bag.
eleven/10/2009
wonderful!!! my family raved!!
07/06/2011
Merely trouble with this was that at that place wasn't enough of the ribs. Could have eaten way more.
01/28/2012
Soooo adept, my husband loves this. I employ extra garlic and reserve some actress dark-green onions on the side for garnish at the end. I also reduce the leftover marinade for extra dipping/drizzling sauce. Serve with sauteed spinach greens and white rice and we have a complete delicious dinner!
12/04/2011
I had been weary of using this recipe considering all i Had was regular beef curt ribs and they were very tough but i sliced them thin and BEAT them using my wooden hammer meat tenderizer contraption. I omitted the water and they taste better than the resteraunts. Im making rice with it to complete this perfect meal! Definitely making information technology again for the family.
01/25/2012
OMG! This recipe was And so delish!!!! Fabricated it exactly as stated, grilled over a hot hot grill which left beautiful grill marks. A very simple yet complex tasting recipe. I marinated over night in fridge & I boiled the remaining marinate for 5-10 minutes & Served over white rice Wow! Everyone raved! ;) Thank you then much for sharing this fabulous recipe! ;)
08/27/2011
Made per recipe, but used regular onion instead of light-green. Marinaded overnight, then cooked in my crockpot. It was actually good and I received many compliments from my guests, only next time I desire to at least stop them on the BBQ grill. Served this dish with jasmine rice and light-green beans.
12/17/2010
This recipe came out great!! The marinade gives information technology the right corporeality of flavour, giving yous a savory taste of the marinade and beef! It uses very unproblematic ingredients found in your kitchen. I used thin boneless ribs and as well added chopped circular onions and toasted sesame seeds into the marinade and soaked it overnight. The next evening i fried it on a frying pan. Once the meat was cooked, i wrapped it with lettuce and ate them in mouthfuls. So simple, but so... great tasting!!
05/22/2011
Excellent recipe. Thanks for sharing.
08/09/2011
The meat was extremely tough, but still tasted amazing
03/19/2012
One word...Awesome!! These are spot on as confirmed by two Korean friends. I marinated for 24 hours but would recommend longer. One friend said he grandmother would marinate for three days.
11/24/2011
Super easy recipe nevertheless tastes good if you cut the marinating time downwards, but tastes wonderful and meat tender if you marinate overnight.
01/29/2011
Very close to the recipe I got when I lived in Hawaii. I doubled the garlic and green onion. Very good marinade for craven also.
01/25/2011
My husbands favorite! We employ equal parts fresh ginger and garlic, less sesame oil, increment soyu and brown sugar and omit the water. Skillful marinade for any kind of meat.
07/01/2010
Bang-up recipe!
06/02/2010
I'chiliad a big fan of annihilation grilled, and this is no exception. Great taste....
03/06/2013
This had such a great season! I basically followed the recipe except fabricated a few changes based on other reviews and what I had on mitt. I didn't have sesame oil, so I used oil from some tahini paste, an extra clove of garlic and used 1/2 cup pineapple juice and i/4 water instead of just water. I likewise used pork country ribs instead of beef, only because that's just what I had. I did bake them in the oven as others suggested at 375 for about 20 min and then turned them and broiled another 10 to 15 min. They were boneless and some were bigger than others and then I but took out the smaller pieces and cooked the larger pieces every bit needed. I did follow some other suggestion and boiled the marinade for a dipping sauce. I mixed some water with a piffling cornstarch to thicken it. I saved some left over sauce afterward this meal and used it to dip chicken. Really really good!!
06/16/2011
These are awesome! Just had them - easy and yummy.
09/10/2011
So easy and delicious. I made no changes I would marinate the meat as long as possible. I made the mistake of marinated for less than an hour and did not run out very well.
04/thirteen/2012
Love it! Tastes just like a recipe for "Maui beefiness" I once had & lost. I use flank steak or flap meat in one big piece and grill it, and so piece thin. Perfect with rice or whatsoever Asian meal. Thanks for sharing!
05/06/2014
Instead of grilling, I threw everything in my boring cooker--marinade and all--and it made a succulent stew. I could inhale this stuff by the bowlful with some white rice!
09/06/2011
Followed nigh excactly. Tha family loved it. may alter slightly just for personal tastes, but very good.
08/12/2011
This recipe is totally awesome!! I had never cooked short ribs before, I followed this recipe only adding fresh ground pepper and a little seasoning common salt on the ribs. I let them marinate for 24hrs. Since I did not accept a grill I used my big George Foreman grill, which worked out great and as I took the cooked meat off the grill I put them in a glass container that was in the oven to keep them hot and well-baked. I server them over rice my family really enjoyed them.
07/07/2013
Made this recipe today with brusk ribs(that were thick). I made double the sauce ane 1/2 sauce in the plastic bag to marinate the other to baste(added cornstarch to thicken). We put them on a pan on the grill allow them cook while basting then towards the stop put them directly on the grill. I ran out of soy sauce and then I used kikko teriyaki marinate. I simply had little bit of green onions. But that didn't make a divergence. I served them with mixed veggies, craven dumplings and white rice. My family unit loved it. Will definitely make again.
08/24/2011
Neat recipe but information technology seems to exist missing something. Perhaps some apple/pear puree like the bottled marinade has.I poured the marinade into a pot and brought it to a slight boil so I could use information technology as dipping sauce.
09/23/2012
No luck with this recipe. Besides salty. Baked and baked per reviews. The Beef Bulgogi recipe from here is better.
02/06/2012
loved, loved, loved it!! Made this twice in a week just to evidence my family unit how nifty this recipe really is! The darn things were devoured super quick! Didn't alter the recipe at all. Thanks CC!!
08/21/2014
This recipe is and then yummy I add together only a bit of ginger and sesame seeds and marinate over night. ...i employ beef short ribs their the thick cutting no bone ribs meat you can buy anywhere and marinate it over night, before I cook them on a skillet I slice them thin and cook on each side just for a infinitesimal or ii depending how thick yous slice your meat and they are so incredibly tender it'southward amazing. I had a lot of meat after I sliced it all, bought information technology at costco, so I stuck the remainder in a zippo lock bag in the marinade into the freezer information technology kept well the freezer batch tasted equally corking equally the first if non better. Thank yous for the recipe!
12/21/2014
Used this recipe with a 6 pound brisket that had been tenderized. Marinated for 3 days in a vacuum bag then slow cooked for half-dozen hours on my smoker. Served with white rice on romaine lettuce leaves. Rave reviews, could have eaten 3x every bit much. Great flavor
eleven/nineteen/2014
Followed the recipe just cooked ribs in oven at 375 for 25 mins and 3 mins in broiler. The family absolutely LOVED them. This is an amazing recipe will exist making these often.
10/08/2014
I fabricated this for an titbit party and information technology was easily the star! The marinade was quick and easy to prepare. I opted for the baking and broiling method recommended by another user. It as well was very simple and fast to complete. Finally, I reduced the marinade and used information technology as a dipping sauce. TO DIE FOR!!
06/17/2013
This is a wonderful dish. I used 1/2c soy sauce only; I didn't have light-green onions and then I grated one/3 of regular onion for the marinade. I too added all the juice and three slices from a can of pineapple (cheers to some other reviewer)for a little sweetness. (I put the pineapple through the food processor.) Marinated for three days, turning at least twice daily; barbecued about 5 minutes per side. DElishious. Cooked up the marinade for 10 minutes to serve for actress sauce - everyone took some. Had 2 requests for the recipe. Am going to the store to purchase more of these ribs(they're on sale right now). I'll put them in ziplock numberless with the marinade and freeze until I wish to serve them again, which won't be too far in the future. Give thanks you lot, thank y'all to the recipe poster.
04/01/2014
Wonderful and super like shooting fish in a barrel recipe! I decided to bake it instead of grilling. Preheated the oven to 370 and broiled each side for 12 minutes. While information technology was cooking I brought the rest of the sauce to a boil and then kept it on medium depression heat until it turned to a thick delicious sugariness and savory glaze, which was suggested in the previous review. After the ribs cooked for 24 minutes, I baked it on low heat for a v min. Poured the glaze over it and it was succulent!!!!
06/25/2012
A expert recipe. I think side by side time I'll make it with a piffling more sesame oil and less garlic (although i probably put besides much garlic in the first fourth dimension). Edit: subbed one tsp onion powder for the green onions to great success.
02/24/2013
D.E.L.I.S.H!!!! Volition for sure be making these again soon... Everyone really enjoyed these....
08/18/2012
Marinated the ribs for 3 days every bit another reviewer recommended. Too upped the amount of garlic. These turned out AMAZING - so much flavor, and the meat was fall-off-the-os tender. So good! Thanks, CC!
09/10/2014
This was such an crawly surprise. I added a bit of ginger, some dear & mashed up some canned pear & pineapple with a flake of added juice from each into the mix. Don't treat sesame so added just a pinch of grillin' Asian sesame mix, used yellow onion & baked, then broiled as per other reviewers, also have grilled at the camp. Astonishing Thanks for the recipe. Information technology is now on rotation for chicken, pork butts sliced into rib mode, etc. Keen job!
01/02/2015
Made it many times!
03/22/2015
Needs a petty more brown sugar, so great. :)
06/27/2012
I had never seen or heard of this kind of ribs so couldn't wait to get them and set them. DH couldn't terminate oohing and aaghing over them. Merely complaint he had "wasn't whatsoever leftovers"....LOL! So next time I will accept to double the recipe. Give thanks you for sharing a wonderful recipe.
12/02/2012
Im korean so im familar to the flavors used, this is a good maranade i used a filet and sparse sliced it cooked information technology for but about five minutes and is came out great. cheers.
01/12/2016
Fabulous recipe. I marinated the meat for 36 hours, and made two changes to the marinade. Instead of h2o, utilize pineapple juice (the citric acrid makes the meat even more than tender) and add a tablespoon of grated ginger for a bit of rut and flavor. My wife and both agreed it was the best curt ribs we had ever had
07/31/2013
SOOO good over rice!
03/05/2013
I will add a little more sugar next time merely because I'd like them a little sweeter. This recipe is delicious and definitely a keeper!
06/26/2014
Really easy and really proficient. I did make some adjustments. I added season salt, onion pulverisation, black pepper, and red wine vinegar to the marinade. I besides used the marinade in one case removing the ribs. I simmered it downward with some chopped celery, bay leaves and minced onions and used information technology to drizzle on top of the finished grilled ribs. Once I drizzled the sauce, I put them in the oven covered on 350 to bake for 30 minutes and they came out very tender and full of flavor. This is a keeper. Yum.
07/26/2012
It tasted similar the ones I had in Korean restaurants and I'm amazed information technology is so easy to make. I followed it exactly, marinated for three hours, and grilled it on our George Foreman grill and it turned out perfect. Cheers for the great recipe!
03/24/2013
These were proficient just the ribs don't get soft enough this way. I would use the same marinade (which is the bomb) but irksome cook the ribs at 325 in a tightly covered pan for 3-4 hours or utilize a crockpot adjacent time. I may only use this as a stir-fry type sauce for chicken too. Very good. UPDATE: have used equally a stir-fry sauce and it'south wonderful. I just thicken it with almost 1/4 cup corn starch mixed with common cold h2o. Add information technology a piddling at a time until the sauce is as thick as y'all like. VERY good.
07/08/2013
This was absolutely fantastic! My married man raved about it equally did my guests. This tastes improve than what I can go at a Korean BBQ eating place!
08/27/2012
Beloved this recipe because my son actually tried it and liked information technology. When he sees the short ribs at the market place he now makes a request. The sauce is ideal and the meat comes out tender. Great recipe.
04/28/2016
I followed the recipe verbatim and the result is fantastic! The dish is extremely piece of cake to make! My son, who is extremely picky took three servings and complimented nonstop. I really beloved information technology myself.
06/04/2013
I've tried many kalbi recipes and this is past far the all-time!
11/24/2012
YUMMY! NEXT Fourth dimension I MIGHT TRY Blistering FIRST BC Information technology WAS A Piffling TOUGH ON THE BONE, BUT Succulent Season!
08/xviii/2012
Excellent recipe! My husband uses this marinade on flanken curt ribs. Admittedly delicious. He followed the recipe exactly as stated and they are perfect every time. Cheers for sharing CC!
09/xi/2012
These are AWESOME! I prepared them exactly as stated and I wouldn't change a thing. This is definitely a favorite in our house now. And then easy! Thanks for sharing.
01/23/2013
My family all enjoyed this. I cooked the ribs in the slow cooker all 24-hour interval on low heat.
12/01/2017
These are slap-up! Similar others, though, these ended up in the oven at 375 for twenty minutes and and then broiled for v min. I took the marinade and thickened it on the stovetop with a cornstarch slurry (2tsp cornstarch to one/iv cup h2o) and made a sauce for the rice and veggies. And then tasty! Make certain you get practiced ribs though. We got cheap ones and had to option out bone shards...
07/05/2018
I used a pureed pear to replace the brown sugar, and only added a small handful of brown saccharide (since my pear wasn't every bit sweet as I would like). Using fruit or soda'south are very common in korean cooking and I adopt it. I let it marinate overnight and cooked it the following afternoon on the grill. You lot should watch the meat carefully, because cooking vii minutes on each side would take definitely burnt my meat!
06/15/2016
Made these for the first time for my family of vi. I had to double everything since I have large boys in the family and they loved information technology! Was piece of cake and will definitely make once more!
01/25/2018
I was stationed in Korea for a yr and I miss the food and then much. When I found this recipe it made me miss the food a footling less considering this recipe is right on the money.
04/24/2018
Such a simple and delicious weeknight repast! Added some carmine pepper flakes for more kick and served it up with some Jasmine rice and a crunchy asian salad on the side. The discerning mister gave it raves.
09/27/2015
I liked it simply wished the flavour was stronger.
06/26/2018
We have fabricated this a few times and love information technology! Makes a mess of the grill just worth it.
03/25/2020
Delicious!! Altho I used country style pork ribs, & the tedious cooker method..the results were tasty, fall apart tender ribs in a delightful broth! Afterward skimming the fat off, we doused the meat & some white rice with it and YUMMM! Family enjoyed this & we'll definitely make once more. Thank you!
07/01/2018
Added tsp of rice vinegar and toasted sesame seeds. Used i/ii cups instead of 3/4 cups for 1 1/2 lb short ribs.
07/05/2018
Easy, made an extra recipe of marinade and let it sit over nighttime. Then followed as directed. I loved it!!!!
02/07/2019
This is an awesome recipe! Nosotros have fabricated it for several dinner guests and everyone loved information technology. I add a fiddling extra garlic but it's not necessary.
05/10/2020
Best kalbi recipe
07/02/2019
This recipe makes my husband fall in dear with me all over over again every fourth dimension I make it. Instead of h2o I use a half cup of no-pulp orange juice, and I add together about a teaspoon of ground ginger root. I likewise practise what another user said, bake at 375 for twenty minutes and then bake for 5. Fantabulous!
07/08/2015
I made this dish for my husband who loves Kalbi. I but combined all the ingredients into a ziplock bag & massaged the handbag-that was the extent of my marinade time. Poured a small layer of the marinade with the meat on a baking pan lined with parchment paper and baked it at 375 for 10 min on each side for a total of xx min. And so broiled at 400 for 5 min each side. My husband loved it. I realized after that I forgot to add the sesame oil, but information technology wasn't missed.
02/03/2017
Amazing.....loved, loved, loved them!
09/20/2016
Followed the recipe and it turned out well. Nosotros ate it with rice.
06/18/2020
I grilled the meat. It was awesome!!!
03/27/2020
used apple juice instead of water. forgot to add the ginger I bought and will try that next time. very yummy!
04/19/2016
Tastes exactly like the best Hawaiian plate lunches and could be from any Korean place. I only cooked mine for about 8 minutes total (iv min. per side) and that was perfect. I will definitely brand this again!
10/16/2015
Astonishing sense of taste and very like shooting fish in a barrel to practice. The just thing I added was some grated ginger and more garlic to the marinade. I also let it marinade for 2 days in the refrigerator (not planned it just worked out that way). Likewise make sure you buy a well marbled flanken rib, such as from Sam'southward Gild, to ensure your end consequence is tender. After all these are nevertheless ribs and I'm sure you wouldn't await ribs that take been grilled for 10-xiv minutes to be tender??? Then marbling is important. This is a keeper and nosotros volition be making them again! Relish!
06/08/2019
This was AMAZING! I absolutely love this recipe!!! I added more garlic because Howdy!! GARLIC!!!
01/10/2019
Super simple and super delicious! My simply mistake is forgetting the kimchi to go with information technology! 1 alter I would make, only for aesthetics, to add together sesame seeds on peak forth with fresh cut dark-green green onions :) Oh, and I don't use a basin, I just add together all the ingredients in the bag, liquids last, then I shake it effectually to mix so add together ribs. I also rotate the handbag at some bespeak during marinating just to make sure they all get a turn to sit at the bottom. Highly recommend for a simple even so tasty meal!
05/09/2020
Amazing flavor!
07/23/2018
Swell recipe!!! I made the dish and added shrimp fried rice and my family just love information technology!!!
07/fourteen/2019
Excellent! Just as expert equally our favorite Hawaiian joint!
10/22/2018
I fabricated this every bit written, marinating it overnight. I used a low sodium soy sauce, and that was still too salty simply the flavor was outstanding. I don't know much virtually Korean nutrient only really love the taste of this dish. The saltiness was beginning by the rice I served it with but it was yet likewise salty. Side by side time, I'll decrease the soy sauce to our taste and see how it comes out. Otherwise, this one is a keeper. Cheers for sharing.
09/xvi/2016
a little tough even later marinating overnight. season very good though
06/01/2018
And then like shooting fish in a barrel, I already had all the ingredients on hand. The kids merely gobbled it up! This will be my "become to".
08/xiii/2016
First-class! Enough said.
01/27/2017
I had noticed this cutting of meat (local market chosen them English Short Ribs but I learned through the internet it's really Flakken) and had wondered how to prepare them. Found this recipe and I marinated them for almost 30 hours, and other than maybe grilling them a picayune too long, they turned out great! The flavor was excellent and I will definitely do this over again.
